The Opening Ceremony

The lights are down and the volume is up. The party is starting to take off, although I felt ashamed for the entire party hall and sorry for Abyss when his opening speech didn't make an impression on anyone. Even when he clearly cued for applause, he barely got a response. Come on people! Let's get the spirit up, eh? I think the crowd here isn't as open-minded as it could be. (Too much Quake?)

The Fast Music Compo

Well, I was totally surprised by the fast music sampleset. It was larger than I expected. I was stupid enough to be tweaking saboteurweb.com's SMTP relay settings (and getting very little done at it) when the sampleset was released. I missed almost 30 minutes of the 1,5 hours of time! Another thing that surprised me about the samplepack was the fact that it featured two drumloops. And oh my God... The other one was The Amen! Arggh! Come on! It wasn't even a terribly good version of an Amen, I would have liked to use Renoise to excite it a bit but sadly only IT and XM formats were allowed. Hint to organizers: Allow Renoise entires and you'll get much better entries! Anyway, I didn't use the amen or the other breakbeat. It took me a while to get going and I spent a lot of time on that first pattern, working out the theme. I took a slight influence from "Orbital - The Girl With The Sun In Her Head" when thinking up the chord progression. I also tracked up my own breakbeat from the samples provided and put in a solo and a bass, and by that time it was 15 minutes past eight, only 15 minutes until the handin would close! Agh! It was very difficult to compose with the massive noise but I think I got it right for the part that I actually had time to get at all. My entry is only about 30 seconds long, with a fade in the end, because I totally ran out of time. I had no more than one or two minutes of time left before the handin would close when I contributed the song. When I had uploded the entry and returned to the compo main menu, the handin was closed. Talk about a close shave. The entry is not terrible in its theme (or so I think right now) but it's really short and needed a lot more work to sound nice. But hey, fast music is fast music. We'll see how I fare.

Bjorn Lynne

I met Bjorn Lynne, who was selling his CD's in the hallway upstairs next to other business stands. Didn't buy anything yet, though, but I think I will - and ask for his autograph too - just so I can say I've met a legendary demoscener. I actually liked some of his .MOD works. I've signed up for his seminar on Game Music tomorrow.

The Complaint!

I have only one complaint so far. Some guy in the next table has been playing some horrible music! Euagh! And too loud, too! I wouldn't mind if he played something as good as the music that's played from the main speakers (whoever is out there is doing a great job, that stuff kicks ass) but really, honest to God, he's playing horrible, horrible music that never should have even existed. Well, that's only temporary, currently other, better music is in the foreground.

Overall, looking pretty good so far.
